New Program of Strategic Opportunities between Cuba and the Executive Board of the International Fund for Agricultural Development
HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 13 (ACN) The Executive Board of the International Fund for Agricultural Development approved the Strategic Opportunities Program for Cuba 2019-2024 and recognized the government’s commitment in guaranteeing national food security.
During the 124th period of sessions of the organization in Rome Italy, Cuba was highlighted for its high scientific technical level and capacity to respond in reaching the objectives with success, according to the Foreign Ministry website.
In the new phase of the program, the initial financing of 16 million dollars and on that basis a larger co-financing will be promoted in additional money with the objective of improving human capital and favoring the adaptation of products to climate change.
Cuban ambassador Jose Carlos Rodriguez Ruiz highlighted the Cuban government’s priority with the materialization of the right to food security for the population and ratified that Cuba will comply with the commitments and reach the objectives proposed by the program.
Rodriguez Ruiz pointed out that the major obstacle that the country faces in reaching sustainable and agricultural development is the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba for the last 60 years.
In addition to continuing to increasing the bean cultivation and cattle this new stage of the Program includes the support to the growth in the productivity of coffee and cocoa in addition to the availability of fruit trees.
The International Fund for Food Development considers Cuba a world reference member for its capacity and experience in international cooperation so much as receiving as offering.
