Havana, Cuba, Apr 28 (acn) The Cuban American Alianza Martiana Association gave the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) on Friday in Havana a banner as testimony of their struggle for the release of the Cuban Five in Miami.
ICAP President Fernando Gonzalez, thanked on behalf of his other four brothers the courage of the members of the Alianza Martiana who put up a banner in the center of the city of Miami in 2012 demanding Freedom for the Cuban Five.
Fernando said, with the presence of Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez “you have demonstrated that principles cannot be bought and you never abandoned us”.
The ICAP President highlighted the constant examples of support of the members of the Alianza Martiana, -umbrella organization made up by different Cuban emigrant institutions- that had to face the hostile anti Cuban environment in Miami.
He announced that the huge banner will be placed on Sunday at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp in the town of Caimito with the presence of the International May Day Brigade made up by over 200 solidarity activists from 26 countries including a large representation from the United States.
Andres Gomez, coordinator of the Antonio Maceo Brigade, recalled how the banner remained in place in Miami for 32 hours, despite the permanent actions of the right wing sector to take it down.
The Cuban American solidarity activist said that “it was not a sacrifice, it was our duty to fight for our Homeland, those that struggle in favor of its people despite adversaries and own weakness”.
During the activity, Ricardo Alarcon commented that Miami was, paradoxically one of the cities that responded strongly in solidarity with the case of the Cuban Five that is why “receiving this banner is an opportunity to recognize those that maintained a Patriotic attitude”.
