Apr 4, 2019 by

Please join the Chicago Cuba Coalition on Sunday April 7th, when we welcome and sponsor a discussion with two of Cuba’s foremost scholars on the issues of race and identity in Cuba and politics of Cuba today.  Tomas Robaina and Gisela Arandia will participate in the Chicago SNCC history project, The global sixties; social movements for civil rights, decolonization and human rights, April 4-7th. (Refer to snccchicago.org website for more information)

The CCC is honored to host a discussion, following the SNCC conference, at the SEIU HQ; Sunday, April 7th at 6 PM.

Speakers:

Tomas Fernandez Robaina, researcher at Jose Marti National Library, professor University of Havana, member UNEAC (Cuban Union of Artists and Writers), author of 10 books and numerous articles on Black presence in Cuba

Gisela Arandia, author and researcher, head of executive of ARAC, Cuban civil rights organization. She has researched on black feminism, black Cuban community in Miami, the impact of mass media on self esteem of afro-descendent people

Cuba is a unique example of workers and farmers holding government power and building a society that is based on human needs and not capitalist profit. They have achieved world recognized standards through their socialized healthcare system. They continue to build on cultural and educational gains by prioritizing free and quality education for all. And internationally they remain true to their anti-imperialist and humanitarian principles. In response to an international call for support from liberation forces in Angola, Cuba sent 400,000 volunteer troops to Angola, leading to the defeat of racist South Africa and the achievement of national independence in Angola. Cuba has sent 100,000 doctors and teachers  to 80 countries to provide services in healthcare and literacy.

The Chicago Cuba Coalition demands:
END THE ECONOMIC WAR AGAINST CUBA NOW!
U.S. OUT OF GUANTANAMO!
END THE TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS AGAINST CUBA NOW!

Please come and learn about and discuss the reality of revolutionary Cuba.
