Report back from May Day International Brigade: ‘What we saw in Cuba’ Nearly 300 people from 29 countries joined the 12th May Day International Brigade to Cuba April 23 to May 8. Participants from Chicago learned about the Cuban Revolution and the challenges facing workers and farmers there. We visited hospitals, met and talked with farmers leading cooperative farms, leaders of mass organizations, and people on the streets. Blanca Monett, a fourteen-year-old when Fidel Castro put out a call in 1960 for teachers to go into the rural areas of Cuba to teach literacy in the campaign (“Each one teach one”), is visiting in the Bay Area.
